Senior Pastor

Thank you for taking time to visit our website.

It was back in 1976, when the Lord spoke to me about stepping into full-time ministry. It didn't happen until January 1977, when I decided to become a full-time pastor because of the love for the Lord and the love for His people.

The bible verses that spoke to me on His leading:

When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Matt 9:36 When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.” 16 Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.” John 21:15-16

Here at EBC, we are passionate about encountering God and loving people. My greatest joy is seeing people, families come to know the Lord and their lives being transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit. Also in seeing young people that I discipled grow and move on in the Lord is one of my greatest encouragement.

My hope is to see the church and christians in Sarawak growing strong and continuing to be a positive influence in every spheres of society beyond the confines of the community of believers.

During my pastime, I enjoy reading different kinds of books, playing badminton, and going for walks with my wife. My hobby is building and flying remote control planes and helicopters.

Much love,

Pastor David Kueh (+ Irene)

Associate pastor

I came to know Christ around 1977, amongst the earlier batch of believers who joined Emmanuel Baptist Church (EBC). Ever since, I was actively involved with the music and youth ministry, serving as one of the leaders. The thought of going into full time was not really my main objective in life until I felt a tugging in my heart that one day I will serve Him full-time. However, I just brushed aside the thought.

After working in the marketplace for more than 10 years, the divine time for me to enter into full time ministry came when the late Pastor Philip James was visiting EBC. The Lord confirmed God’s call for me through him to serve as the Worship Pastor at EBC. I remember I was still working with MBF Finance as their credit officer and it was about that time that the company went into a separation scheme exercise for all staff. Even though the regional manager wanted me to stay on; I sensed in my heart that it was time to obey God to serve Him in a full-time capacity. The moment came in 1998, and I was called to be the Worship Pastor of EBC.

My greatest joy is to see people encountering the Presence of God during the time of worship. The Bible verse that stirs my passion regarding worship is found in Psalm 40:3

which says
“He put a new song in my mouth,

a hymn of praise to our God.

Many will see and fear the Lord

and put their trust in him.”

May we see many continue to experience the reality of God through worship. Indeed, when we learn to worship the Lord in spirit and in truth, we will experience life transforming worship.

Another desire of mine is to see the nurturing and rising of next generation of worship leaders who are also passionate for the Presence of God and know how to lead the people in worship.

My vision is to see the Glory of God covers Sarawak as God’s people lift up the name of Jesus Christ when they worship Him.

During my time off, I usually enjoy spending time with my loved ones such as going for a walk or to the mall and reading books and learning new skills on the guitar.

Much love,

mandarin service pastors

In the last quarter of 2003, our Senior Pastor, Pastor Kueh announced to the English Congregation that our Mandarin Service Pastor was retiring by the end of that year. We were requested to pray for our Mandarin Church, forseeing that lots of help will be needed to minister to our Mandarin speaking brothers and sisters-in-Christ.

The Holy Spirit started to move our hearts. Pastor Belinda and I discussed with one another and we started to pray for our Mandarin Church. We also started to join the Mandarin Services occasionally, to observe and to see how we could help.

The question that came to both of us was, "Who is going to take care of them, when their pastor retires? They will be like sheep without a shepherd.”

We were then reminded of what Jesus asked and told Peter in the Gospel of John: “Do you truly love Me? Take care of my sheep.”

These thoughts moved our hearts, even as Pastor Belinda and I started to discuss the matter.

We believe, it must have been Christ's love that had compelled us, right from the beginning, considering that fact that we were both not educated in Mandarin, yet both our hearts were drawn to the Mandarin Church.

As the Holy Spirit led us on, we knew we must come over to the Mandarin Church to help, yet, one big question we have for God was, "How, God? We have no Mandarin basics at all!”

God reminded us, "Nothing is impossible for God!" All we had to do was just trust and obey.

That was just exactly what we did and our exciting journey of walking on water, like Peter, we stepped out of the ‘boat’ in January 2004.

Our desires and prayers for the saints are like what Paul says in the book of Ephesians:

“We keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give His people the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that they may know Him better. We pray also that the eyes of their hearts may be enlightened in order that they may know the hope to which He has called them to and understand the riches of His glorious inheritance for the saints and the incomparably great power for those who believe…”

Much Love,
